About the Author — Roy Firth

General Manager – RapidPlas Group

Roy Firth has been around rainwater tanks his entire life — quite literally. Born in 1990, the same year RapidPlas was founded by his grandfather Michael, Roy grew up helping his uncle Jim fix tanks on-site during school holidays. From a young age, he experienced firsthand the challenges of installation, maintenance, and tank failures — and the importance of doing things right.

He started out assembling D-Feeders and hayracks in the factory, then moved into raw material processing, learning early that the quality of a tank starts with what goes into it. Later, he transitioned into customer service and sales, where he’s since spoken to thousands of people about their tank projects — including the common fears, misconceptions, and practical considerations that go into setting up a rain harvesting system.

Roy’s hands-on knowledge spans from manufacturing to after-sales service, he’s learnt a lot about what can go wrong, and the pitfalls to avoid, especially during installation. His advice is honest and grounded: “If you’re going to put another one on the shed down the track, just do it now — you’ll save on freight.”

As part of the RapidPlas team, Roy still enjoys helping customers face-to-face and continues to write many of the articles on the RapidPlas website — each one aimed at guiding people through their questions and concerns about water storage. Even after all these years, he’s still surprised by how many wait until drought hits to start thinking about capturing rainwater. Roy’s passionate about helping people plan ahead, take advantage of the wet seasons, and get their system right the first time — because when it comes to water, preparation always pays off.
